Workflow overview

Follow these steps in ReptiDex. Controls may vary by platform.

  1. Choose a supported species
  2. Record each animal's alleles
  3. Select sire and dam in the calculator

ReptiDex connects morph references, structured animal genetics, a pairing calculator, and a visual identifier. These tools answer different questions. A morph guide explains known traits. An animal's allele record stores what you know about that specific animal. The calculator predicts possible offspring from selected inputs. The image identifier suggests visible traits where supported; it does not establish a genotype.

Check which species have genetics support

The current genetics library covers Axolotl, Ball Python, Bearded Dragon, Boa Constrictor, Corn Snake, Crested Gecko, Hognose Snake, and Leopard Gecko. Open Morph Guides to browse the alleles, named morphs, and combinations for one of these species. The species catalog for animal care is broader than the genetics library, so an animal can have a ReptiDex record without an allele guide or calculator. Genetics data can grow over time; check the live species list if you do not see a tool for a species. The visual AI identifier has its own narrower support and should not be assumed available for every species with a genetics guide.

Add alleles to an animal

Open a supported animal's profile and select Genetics. Choose Add Allele, search for the allele, then set the offered zygosity and your confidence level. Add a note when lineage, a test, or an uncertain visual trait needs context. Save it, then review the animal's computed phenotype. You can edit or remove a recorded allele if better evidence arrives. The available zygosity choices depend on the allele's inheritance pattern; do not force a value just because a morph name sounds similar. Check the species and any risk notes in the guide before using a recorded allele in a breeding plan.

Record an allele on an animal

Predict outcomes with your animals

Open Calculator, choose one of the supported species, and use the From collection selectors to choose a sire and dam from your actual animals. The calculator loads each selected animal's recorded alleles into the corresponding parent side. Review both sides before calculating, because unrecorded alleles are treated as normal and an incorrect or unconfirmed record changes the result. You can also enter or adjust alleles manually to explore a hypothetical pairing. Read the predicted probabilities as possible outcomes, not a guarantee of any particular hatchling. If the pairing is useful, use the save-pairing action where offered and keep actual clutch and offspring records separate from the prediction.

Use the visual identifier carefully

Where the identifier is available, choose a clear animal photo and review the suggested visible traits against the morph guide. Lighting, age, camera angle, and similar-looking morphs can affect a suggestion. The identifier currently has narrower species coverage than the genetics library. A suggestion is not a confirmed allele assignment. Record uncertainty in the animal's genetics confidence and notes, and use known parent records or testing when available. If an animal is missing from a calculator selector, confirm that its species and sex match the chosen side and that it belongs to the active collection.
