How to Use QR Codes
Pulling up a live animal record at an expo or during a transfer used to mean searching by name or ID -- QR codes make it a single scan from any smartphone. This guide shows you how to generate, share, and scan QR codes in ReptiDex.
Every public animal in ReptiDex has a QR code that links directly to its public profile. Use them at expos, with buyers, on enclosure labels, or anywhere you want someone to pull up a live animal record instantly.
QR codes are available on paid subscriptions only. Upgrade your plan in Settings > Subscription to unlock QR code generation and printed pedigree QR codes.
Generating a QR Code
Web: Open the animal's detail page and click Show QR Code in the Actions panel on the right side.
Mobile: Open the animal's detail page, scroll to the bottom, and tap Show QR Code in the action buttons.
The QR code panel shows the animal's name, the public profile URL, and three options:
- Share -- opens your device's native share sheet to send the QR code directly
- Save Image -- saves the QR code as an image to your device
- Full Screen -- expands the QR code for easy scanning from a screen at a table or display
Note: An animal must be set to Public visibility to generate a QR code. Private and Lineage Only animals do not have public profiles to link to. See How to Add Animals for details on visibility settings.
Printing QR Codes
QR codes are also embedded in printed pedigree charts. Each ancestor in the printed pedigree includes their own QR code linking to their live profile. This lets buyers scan individual animals in a pedigree to verify lineage on the spot.
Printed pedigree QR codes require a paid subscription. See How to Generate a Pedigree for printing instructions.
Scanning a QR Code
Mobile: From the My Animals screen, tap the QR code icon in the top right corner. Point the camera at any ReptiDex QR code and the app will open that animal's profile directly.
Anyone with a smartphone can scan a ReptiDex QR code using their standard camera app -- no ReptiDex account required to view a public profile.
Tips
- Save QR codes as images and print them as labels for enclosures, tubs, or rack tags so each animal is always one scan away from their full record.
- At expos, use Full Screen to display the QR code on your phone for easy scanning without printing anything.
- When transferring an animal to a buyer, share the QR code so they have instant access to the full record, morph description, and pedigree.
