How to Generate a Pedigree
Providing a verifiable pedigree is one of the strongest ways to establish trust with buyers and justify premium pricing on high-quality animals. This guide shows you how to view, print, and share pedigrees in ReptiDex.
ReptiDex generates pedigrees automatically as you build lineage. Every animal with at least one parent linked has a pedigree. You can view it on the animal's public profile, print it as a formatted chart, and share it digitally via a public link or QR code.
Viewing the Pedigree
The pedigree tree is visible on an animal's public profile page. It shows up to 3 generations -- the subject, parents, and grandparents -- with morph descriptions, photos where available, and color-coded paternal and maternal lines.
Anyone can view the pedigree of a public animal. Private animals do not have a publicly accessible profile or pedigree.
Printing a Pedigree
Web: Open the animal's detail page and click Print Pedigree in the Actions panel on the right side. A formatted pedigree chart opens in your browser's print dialog. You can print it directly or save it as a PDF.
Mobile: Open the animal's detail page, scroll to the bottom, and tap Print Pedigree in the action buttons.
The printed chart includes each ancestor's name, morph description, breeder tag, and a QR code linking to their live profile. QR codes in the printed pedigree are available on paid subscriptions.
Sharing a Digital Pedigree
For animals marked Public, you can share the pedigree two ways:
- Copy Public Link -- copies a direct link to the animal's public profile, which includes the live pedigree tree. Share it with potential buyers, post it on social media, or include it in a sale listing.
- Show QR Code -- generates a scannable QR code linking to the same public profile. Print it for expo table displays, include it with an animal transfer, or attach it to the enclosure.
Both options are in the Actions panel on web and in the action buttons at the bottom of the detail page on mobile.
Note: An animal must be set to Public visibility to generate a public link or QR code. Private and Lineage Only animals do not have shareable profile links. See How to Add Animals for details on visibility settings.
Tips
- The pedigree builds automatically -- no extra steps needed once parents are linked.
- Grandparents populate automatically when a parent already has their own lineage recorded.
- Save the printed pedigree as a PDF to attach to sale records or send digitally to buyers.
- QR codes at expo displays let potential buyers scan and view the full live record on the spot.
