Open the import tool from Settings or the available import entry point. Choose a supported file, review the columns ReptiDex recognizes, and map any fields that need attention.
Export format
Prepare an import
Collect the source file and check which file formats the import tool accepts before uploading. Give animals stable IDs and consistent species names in your source data. Open the import entry point, choose the file, and inspect the preview. Map columns carefully, especially dates, IDs, and species. A shifted column can create records that look valid but contain the wrong values. Resolve duplicate warnings before confirming; importing a small sample first can make a large migration easier to verify.
Verify the new records
After import, search the Animals list for a few distinctive IDs and open their profiles. Check names, species, dates, and visibility. Confirm the total count in the correct collection. If data appears absent, check the active collection and filters. Do not immediately import the same file again, since that can create duplicates. Instead, review the import result or errors and correct the source or mapping. Add photos and detailed care history later where the importer does not support a field.
Take a copy out
Open Settings > Export to see the formats and record types available on your plan. Select the export, download it, then open the file to confirm the expected rows and columns. CSV is useful for spreadsheet review; other formats may be offered for specific needs. An export is a snapshot, so create a new one after major changes. Keep downloaded files somewhere appropriate for the privacy of the animals and people in them. If an export seems incomplete, check the current collection, plan availability, and selected format.
