Frappuccino & Sorak: Advanced Lilly White Combinations

Part of the Crested Gecko Genetics Series. Last updated March 2026.

Frappuccino (Cappuccino + Lilly White) and Sorak (Super Cappuccino + Lilly White) are two of the most visually striking combinations in the crested gecko hobby. They're also two of the most dangerous to breed incorrectly. Both contain Lilly White, which means lethal combination risks apply to every pairing decision. This post covers the genetics, the visuals, the safe pairings, and the ones that will kill embryos.

Prerequisites: This post assumes you've read the Lilly White Safety Guide and The Sable/Cappuccino Allelic Complex.

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ + L/+) - Two-Trait Combination ⚠️ LETHAL RISK

Frappuccino crested gecko combining Cappuccino and Lilly White

What It Is

The combination of Cappuccino AND Lilly White in a single gecko, creating a rare and highly prized appearance. This is NOT a single trait. It's TWO incomplete dominant traits combined on SEPARATE loci.

Formula: CAPP/+ (het Cappuccino) + L/+ (het Lilly White)

CRITICAL SAFETY: Frappuccino contains Lilly White gene, creating LETHAL breeding risks.

Visual Characteristics

Frappuccino Appearance:

  • High white from Lilly White gene (L/+)
  • Darkened rich tones from Cappuccino gene (CAPP/+)
  • Extreme contrast between white and dark areas
  • Distinct headstamp with dark pigment
  • Deep orange coloration in some areas
  • Tons of variation depending on other background genetics
  • Often stunning, gallery-quality appearance
  • Combines dramatically with patterns (Harlequin, Dalmatian, Pinstripe)

Phantom Frappuccino Variant:

When Phantom (PH/PH) is added to Frappuccino:

  • Further suppression of white patterning
  • Creates darker, higher contrast animals
  • More vibrant coloration overall
  • Extreme pattern suppression effects
  • Very rare and sought-after combination

Genetics - Two Separate Loci

CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING: Frappuccino involves TWO separate genetic loci:

Locus 1 - Cappuccino:

  • Position: Cappuccino/Sable locus
  • Genotype: CAPP/+ (heterozygous Cappuccino)

Locus 2 - Lilly White:

  • Position: Lilly White locus
  • Genotype: L/+ (heterozygous Lilly White)

These are INDEPENDENT traits that can be inherited separately or together.

Full Genotype Notation:

  • Frappuccino = (CAPP/+ , L/+)
  • Reads as: "het Cappuccino, het Lilly White"
  • Two different loci, two different traits

How Frappuccino Is Created

Parent 1: Cappuccino (CAPP/+ , +/+)

  • Has Cappuccino gene
  • Does NOT have Lilly White gene

Parent 2: Lilly White (+/+ , L/+)

  • Has Lilly White gene
  • Does NOT have Cappuccino gene

Pairing: Cappuccino × Lilly White

Genetic Segregation:

For Cappuccino locus:

Cappuccino × Lilly WhiteLilly White (+)Lilly White (+)
Cappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/+CAPP/+
Normal (+)+/++/+

50% het Cappuccino, 50% normal at this locus

For Lilly White locus:

Cappuccino × Lilly WhiteLilly White (L)Normal (+)
Normal (+)L/++/+
Normal (+)L/++/+

50% het Lilly White, 50% normal at this locus

Combined Outcomes:

  • 25% Normal (+/+, +/+)
  • 25% Cappuccino only (CAPP/+, +/+)
  • 25% Lilly White only (+/+, L/+)
  • 25% Frappuccino (CAPP/+, L/+) ✓

Only 25% chance of getting the combo because offspring must inherit BOTH genes independently.

Breeding Frappuccino - CRITICAL SAFETY

Frappuccino Genetics:

  • Cappuccino locus: CAPP/+
  • Lilly White locus: L/+

Frappuccino carries LILLY WHITE - creates LETHAL breeding risks.

SAFE Pairing:

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Normal (+/+ , +/+):

For Cappuccino locus:

Frappuccino × NormalNormal (+)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/+CAPP/+
Normal (+)+/++/+

For Lilly White locus:

Frappuccino × NormalNormal (+)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (L)L/+L/+
Normal (+)+/++/+

Combined Outcomes:

  • 25% Normal (+/+, +/+)
  • 25% Cappuccino only (CAPP/+, +/+)
  • 25% Lilly White only (+/+, L/+)
  • 25% Frappuccino (CAPP/+, L/+)

✓ SAFE - No lethal combinations

Safety: ✓ NO lethal combinations, ✓ NO super forms, ✓ Safe and ethical

DANGEROUS Pairings - NEVER DO THESE:

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Lilly White (+/+ , L/+):

For Lilly White locus (THE LETHAL RISK):

Frappuccino (L/+) × Lilly White (L/+)Lilly White (L)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (L)L/L ❌ LETHALL/+
Normal (+)L/++/+

RESULT: 25% Super Lilly White (L/L) = DEATH ❌

RESULT:

  • 25% Super Lilly White (L/L) = DEATH
  • Both parents carry Lilly White gene
  • 25% of eggs will die
  • Completely irresponsible
  • Animal cruelty

Why This Happens:

  • Frappuccino has L/+ (carries Lilly White)
  • Lilly White has L/+ (carries Lilly White)
  • Both can pass L allele
  • L from both parents = L/L = LETHAL

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+):

For Lilly White locus:

Frappuccino (L/+) × Frappuccino (L/+)Frappuccino (L)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (L)L/L ❌ LETHALL/+
Frappuccino (+)L/++/+

For Cappuccino locus:

Frappuccino (CAPP/+) × Frappuccino (CAPP/+)Frappuccino (CAPP)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/CAPPCAPP/+
Normal (+)CAPP/++/+

RESULT: 25% Super Lilly White (L/L) = DEATH ❌ + 25% Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP)

RESULT:

  • 25% Super Lilly White (L/L) = DEATH
  • Also 25% Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP) - health monitoring required
  • Double danger from both traits
  • Extremely irresponsible
  • Multiple ethical violations

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Cappuccino (CAPP/+ , +/+):

For Cappuccino locus:

Frappuccino (CAPP/+) × Cappuccino (CAPP/+)Cappuccino (CAPP)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/CAPPCAPP/+
Normal (+)CAPP/++/+

For Lilly White locus:

Frappuccino × CappuccinoNormal (+)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (L)L/+L/+
Normal (+)+/++/+

Result: Safe for Lilly White ✓, 25% Super Cappuccino (monitor health)

RESULT:

  • Safe for Lilly White (no lethal risk) ✓
  • 25% Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP) - monitor for health
  • Less dangerous but requires health monitoring
  • Ethical WITH proper monitoring and selection

This pairing is acceptable if you:

  • Monitor Super Cappuccino hatchlings for health
  • Incubate at 69-71°F
  • Evaluate nostril size and eye health
  • Select against severe issues
  • Are prepared for Super Cappuccino care

Why These Combinations Are LETHAL

Understanding the Genetics:

Lilly White × Lilly White:

  • Both parents: L/+
  • Can both pass L
  • 25% chance of L/L (Super Lilly White)
  • L/L = LETHAL

Frappuccino × Lilly White:

  • Frappuccino: L/+ (carries Lilly White)
  • Lilly White: L/+ (carries Lilly White)
  • Both can pass L
  • 25% chance of L/L (Super Lilly White)
  • L/L = LETHAL

Frappuccino × Frappuccino:

  • Both parents: L/+ (both carry Lilly White)
  • Both can pass L
  • 25% chance of L/L (Super Lilly White)
  • L/L = LETHAL
  • ALSO risk Super Cappuccino

The Common Factor: Both parents carry Lilly White gene = LETHAL RISK

Safety Rule: NEVER pair two animals that BOTH carry Lilly White gene (L)

Market Value & Ethics

Price Range: $800-$3000+ (very rare, high demand, complex genetics, dramatic appearance)

Why So Expensive:

  • Requires two specific genes (CAPP + L)
  • Only 25% chance from Cappuccino × Lilly White pairing
  • Dramatic visual appearance
  • High demand from collectors
  • Complex genetics story
  • Rare and desirable combination

Ethical Breeding Requirements:

SAFE pairings:

  • Frappuccino × Normal (no Lilly White, no Cappuccino) - SAFEST
  • Frappuccino × Cappuccino (safe for Lilly White, monitor Super Cappuccino)
  • Produce mixed outcomes safely

NEVER pair:

  • Frappuccino × Lilly White (LETHAL RISK - 25% death)
  • Frappuccino × Frappuccino (LETHAL RISK - 25% death)
  • Frappuccino × Any animal carrying Lilly White gene
  • Any pairing where both parents carry L

Breeder Responsibility:

If you produce or sell Frappuccinos, you MUST:

  1. Understand genetic composition - CAPP/+ AND L/+
  2. Know they carry Lilly White - creates lethal risk
  3. NEVER pair with other Lilly White carriers - prevents deaths
  4. Educate buyers extensively about LETHAL risks
  5. Provide written genetic breakdown - not just "Frappuccino"
  6. Screen buyers for understanding - ensure they comprehend
  7. Refuse sales to buyers who don't understand - protect animals
  8. Follow up with education - confirm understanding
