What Monsoon looks like

Visual Monsoon. Distinctive raindrop/speckled pattern. Normal blotch pattern broken into smaller scattered elements.

Pattern mutation that produces a distinctive raindrop or speckled pattern across the body. The normal ball python blotch pattern is broken into smaller, more scattered pattern elements resembling raindrops.

How to identify it: Raindrop or speckled pattern covering the body. Normal blotch pattern broken into smaller scattered elements. Distinctive and easily identifiable when visual.

How Monsoon is inherited

Monsoon follows a recessive inheritance pattern, carried on the Monsoon allele (locus Monsoon).

What does het monsoon mean?

Because Monsoon is recessive, an animal needs two copies of the allele to show the trait visually. An animal with a single copy is called het monsoon (heterozygous). A het animal looks normal but carries the gene, so pairing two het monsoon animals produces, on average, one in four visual monsoon offspring.
